Casual Employee Reminder

If you employ casuals there are a number of obligations in relation to the ‘right to convert’. This is the provision whereby a casual employee with the appropriate length of continuous employment can request to convert to permanent employment.

If you are a large employer, that is employing 15 or more employees (by headcount) you are required to provide the Fair Work Casual Employment Information Statement,

1. At commencement of employment,

2. After 6 months employment,

3. After 12 months employment, and

4. Every 12 months thereafter.

If you are a small employer, that is employing fewer than 15 employees (again by headcount) you are required to provide the Fair Work Casual Employment Information Statement,

1. At commencement of employment, and

2. After 12 months employment.

A copy of the Fair Work Casual Employment Information Statement and more information is available here. https://www.fairwork.gov.au/employment-conditions/information-statements/casual-employment-information-statement#what-is-the-casual-employment
