2030 Roadmap – Farmgate Value Success

In 2018 the NFF released the Roadmap, setting out that the farmgate value had a target of $100 billion by 2030. At the time when farmgate value was only about $60 billion. It was announced this week that Australian agriculture is forecast to reach $100 billion in farmgate production this financial year.

The 2030 Roadmap was shaped through extensive consultation with NFF Members, but also directly with farmers, industry stakeholders and government. It shouldn’t be forgotten that the Roadmap isn't just about the $100 billion target, but is underpinned by five pillars, each with their own set of goals. It is underpinned by a detailed roadmap that places farmer wellbeing, sustainability and natural capital alongside productivity and profitability.

What is especially powerful about the Roadmap is the way it has united Australian agriculture and beyond. The Roadmap has been publicly endorsed by leaders across the political spectrum, including every Prime Minister, Minister for Agriculture and Shadow Minister for Agriculture.

NFF President, Hamish McIntyre, stated, “You don’t need to be born into it to succeed in it. Agriculture needs farmers, yes, but it also needs scientists, engineers, researchers, technology specialists, entrepreneurs and a cracking policy team.”

“For young Australians looking at their future, this is an industry of opportunity.”
